About

Kim Jones is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University. After starting her research career in biomedical engineering, Dr. Jones shifted to investigating and overcoming inequities in engineering. She studies inclusive teamwork and looks at the many aspects of identity (e.g. gender, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic status) that affect interactions within teams. Dr. Jones wants to understand how intersecting identities including gender, race, culture, immigrant status, sexual orientation and ability affect experiences inside and outside engineering classrooms. Her research interests also include mentorship as a tool for inclusion, examining how we can provide mentors to equity-deserving groups. Her biomedical engineering interests include host responses to biomaterials including inflammation, fibrosis and adaptive immunity (adjuvant-type responses), tissue engineering, cultivated meat, bioreactors and stress responses in plants.
