About
Elisabet Service is a Professor Emerita at the Department of Linguistics and Languages at McMaster University. She directs the Language, Memory & Brain Lab at The Centre for Advanced Research in Experimental and Applied Linguistics (ARiEAL). Her research incorporates three major elements: working memory, language and dyslexia. Over the years, her research has expanded to apply working memory concepts and methods for studying morphological complexity in the mental lexicon, sentence processing, language acquisition, the effect of second language on work-related tasks, reading difficulty, and developmental language disorder. Lately, Dr. Service has studied the role of memory for rhythm in language acquisition. A collaboration with Dr. Catherine Connelly investigates the ways in which using a second language may affect negotiation strategies and other cognition in highly skilled jobs.
